On 08-10 June 2019, Terai Human Rights Defenders Alliance organized a workshop in Janakpurdham for the human rights defenders working in 19 districts of Terai. The main objective of the workshop was to build capacity of the participant human rights activists and lawyers to update them about the existing the human rights laws and practices in Nepal, and conduct a wider discussion.
Fundamental rights provisioned in the constitution, criminal code related to torture, enforced disappearance and custodial death, the roles of local judicial committee, Chief Attorney Office, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and different courts were the key contents of the workshop.
The facilitators of the workshop were Chief Attorney of Province 2 Advocate Dipendra Jha, NHRC Janakpur Chief Bir Bahadur Budhamagar, Police Inspector Abadhesh Yadav andSunil Yadav, Section Officer of High Court. From THRD Alliance, Executive Director Advocate Mohan Kumar Karn, Litigation Coordinator Raksharam Harijan and Project Coordinator Praveen Kumar Yadav.
There were forty participants from 19 districts of Terai. The participants expressed their commitment to translate their knowledge and skills learned from the workshop into action while working in their respective districts.
