Terai Human Rights Defenders Alliance (THRDA), Advocacy Forum (AF) and Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) on Wednesday submitted their joint report on torture and death of Raj Kumar Chepang to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

Chepang, a 24-year-old local from Milan Tole from Rapti Municipality-2, Chitwan district, allegedly died on July 22, 2020 due to torture inflicted by Nepal Army personnel deployed in Chitwan National Park. Following the incident, a team from the three human rights organizations jointly monitored the incident. International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) had joined the team as an observer.

Representatives of THRDA, AF, INSEC and ICJ handed over the report to NHRC’s Protection (Investigation, Monitoring, Law) Department Director Murari Kharel and Deputy Director Loknath Bastola.

Upon receiving the report, Director Kharel ensured that the NHRC will study the report and use it as reference for the NHRC’s report. He also informed that Province 3 Office of NHRC has been investigating the incident, and it is currently in the stage of report writing.
