Terai Human Rights Defenders Alliance in coordination with Jhapa Human Rights Defenders Network held a meeting with community members of Mechinagar-14 of Kharbari, Jhapa on 24 May 2018.
Representatives of THRD Alliance, HRD Network and locals discussed the situation of human rights and citizenship issues. THRD Alliance’ representatives told the participants how the organisation was helping the victims of human rights violations to seek justice and what activities it was carrying out to protect and promote human rights.
THRD Alliance’s Human Rights Officer Amrit Kumar Rajbanshi briefed the participants about the THRD Alliance’s activities related to the protection and promotion of human rights as well as the legal aid being provided to the victims of human rights violation.
Similarly, HRD Network’s Co-coordinator Manisha Rajbansshi also informed that the network will work closely with THRD Alliance to decrease the incidents of human rights violations in the district.
Around 36 locals participated in the meeting and majority of them said they were facing hassled to get their citizenship certificates.
